Commemorative coins for the Qatar 2022 World Cup are on sale in Argentina

The Central Bank of Argentina announced on Tuesday the issuance of silver coins commemorating the Qatar 2022 Soccer World Cup, minted in Spain and with a face value of 5 Argentine pesos, which is equivalent to just about 5 US cents.

The numismatic piece, which is sold through the Central Bank’s website at 11,400 pesos ($ 107.5) per unit, is made of 925 silver, has a diameter of 40 millimeters, a weight of 27 grams and its edge is fluted.

According to the Argentine monetary authority in a statement, this issue reaches 2,500 units and the coins were minted by the National Mint and Stamp Factory – Royal Mint of Spain.

The Argentine Central Bank said that this issue also includes the minting of gold coins that will be traded internationally.

The obverse of the coin presents in the central field the image of a booty about to kick a soccer ball, while the reverse illustrates the number 5 that refers not only to the value of the coin but also to the distinctive dorsal number of a jersey. and, above it, the net of the soccer goal.

The Argentine Central Bank had already issued commemorative coins for the 2006 World Cups in Germany, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018. (D)
