Paulo Autuori resigns from Atlético Nacional, Colombia

Coach Paulo Autuori resigned from Atlético Nacional, after losing the final of the Apertura Tournament of the Colombian Championship, weeks away from the dispute of the round of 16 of the Libertadores Cupinformed the club this Thursday (6).

“Due to personal reasons, the coach has decided to step down,” the Medellin team wrote in a statement.

Under the command of 66-year-old Autuori, Atlético Nacional lost on June 24 an unprecedented final against Millonarios, its eternal rival.

The coach had been criticized by the fans, dissatisfied with his defensive style, and in recent games his bad relationship with some players was evident.

After the defeat to Millonarios, the team lost in the last round of the Libertadores group stage to Patronato, which is in the second division of Argentina.

In the round of 16 of the continental tournament, Atlético Nacional will face another Argentine, Racing, in the first half of August.

Champion of Libertadores with Cruzeiro and São Paulo, where he also won the Club World Cup in 2005, Autuori had arrived in Colombia in October 2022.
