CSKA said that it was unprofitable for the club to announce the termination of the contract with Fernandez
CSKA Moscow Communications Director Kirill Breido commented on the situation with the contract of team defender Mario Fernandez on Telegram.
Breido said that in the winter the parties agreed on the actual termination of the contract and entered into a gentleman’s agreement not to announce this, as it was unprofitable for the club. In turn, Fernandez promised to play in Russia only for the army, while the agreement lacked a clause on payments and compensation.
“Today, together with you, we learned the details that clarified a lot about the course of our difficult negotiations. Much of this is unpleasant to realize, but the club has never had the desire to deceive our fans, ”Breido emphasized.
On July 6, journalist Ivan Karpov announced the imminent transfer of Fernandez to Zenit. According to him, the Brazilian will sign a two-year contract with the St. Petersburg team with a salary of 2.5 million euros per season, while CSKA offered 1.5 million.
Fernandez has been playing for CSKA since 2012. As part of the team, he won the Russian championship three times. Since 2017, the defender has been involved in matches for the Russian national team, with which he reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup.
