The legendary Pelé congratulated Argentine Lionel Messi on Monday for winning his seventh Ballon d’Or, with a message on social networks in which he considered the award “a fair tribute.”
“Congratulations @leomessi, for another Ballon d’Or. It is certainly a fair tribute to an unparalleled talent, “wrote the Brazilian star.
“Seven times, thank you very much!”

Although Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, never won that award, he was recognized in 2000 as Player of the 20th Century by FIFA experts.
The historic ‘Rei’ is the only footballer to win three World Cups (1958, 1962, 1970).
But the Rosario star snatched one of his records as top scorer for a South American team last September, surpassing the 77-goal mark.
Pele, 81, is undergoing chemotherapy after an operation on September 5 in which a tumor in the colon considered suspicious was removed. (D)
