Women’s European Handball Championship 2026 will be transferred from Russia
The European Handball Championship 2026 among women’s teams, which was supposed to be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg, will be transferred to another country. This was reported on the website of the Russian Handball Federation (FGR).
The organization noted that they made such a decision after consultations with the European Handball Federation (EHF). “Current conditions do not allow timely implementation of all stages of preparation for such a major tournament. This concerns the inspection visits of the EHF representatives, the technical support of the arenas, the arrival of fans from other countries and other key operational issues,” the FGR said.
They also expressed the hope that the Russian fans will treat this decision with understanding. “It is very difficult, because in order to get the right to organize the tournament, a lot of work has been done,” the FGR added.
All Russian women’s and men’s handball teams have been suspended from international competitions. National teams have lost their chance to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
