The Ecuadorian swimmer who lives in the United States harvested medals in 100 and 50 freestyle, on Sunday and Monday.
The Ecuadorian Anicka Delgado won her second medal in a row at the Pan American Junior Games in Cali 2021 and at the moment she becomes the best representative of Team Ecuador for swimming so far in the contest.
On Sunday night, at the Hernando Botero O’Byrne pool, the tall athlete took the podium in the 100-meter freestyle event. And on Monday, on the same stage, in a demanding test, Anicka ended up equalizing in time (25.74) and in second position with the Brazilian Dayse Goncalvez Pereira, with 25.74, for which the organization delivered two silver medals.
According to the swimmer, when she arrived at the Games, she did not set a goal in the number of medals to be achieved. “I just came from a competition representing my University of Southern California (USC) and when I got here the only thing on my mind was to be with my friends and swim hard, having fun, every time I entered the pool. What has been achieved now fills me with joy, in fact I am very happy with the results ”.
Regarding the silver medal that he added on Monday, he considers that it was a tough fight, because the level is very strong at the Pan-American level. “All the competitors swim very fast and it was an honor to swim against them and, even more, to be on the podium winning medals.”
With this Pan American, the season concludes for the swimmer who lives in the United States and has already set goals, beyond swimming and the new Olympic cycle, such as learning to speak Spanish. “Now I have to go back to school in the United States and continue preparing for new competitions and also return to Ecuador to improve my Spanish.”
The main person in charge of the career and the successes of the athlete is her father, former swimmer Felipe Delgado, who with pride and a smile that stretches his face with joy assures that what Anicka achieved is not a coincidence, although he cannot stop scoring. that “he arrived here with a lot of load due to the swimming season with his university,” so they had to change the schedule. “We decided then to compete with everything you have to give, but if you have passion, heart and pride for what you are doing, you get results like Anicka’s, a bronze and a silver medal,” he remarked.
Regarding the competition that gave her the silver medal in the 50 freestyle, she assured that “what she did tonight (on Monday), with 25.74, is the fastest she has swum with a load on her. I am sure that Anicka has no ceiling and we are already thinking about participating in important championships for the summer and falling 25 seconds in the 50 meters freestyle. If she succeeds, she would be one of the few swimmers in Latin America to do so ”. (D)
