Even after two years of his departure from the Barcelona, Lionel Messi continues to stir up the backstage of the team. This time, President Joan Laporta confirmed to the newspaper The vanguard that the club still owes money to the Argentine star.
According to the director, the amount that Messi still needs to receive is related to the salaries agreed with the previous management. Laporta said the Barça idol is “paid religiously” and that the debt does not affect the finances of the Catalans.
“The payment corresponds to the deferral of the payroll that was agreed with the previous board and that produces pending payments that end in 2025”, he said.

The president also spoke about Messi’s move to Inter Miami. Barcelona even made a proposal official for the player’s father, but the two opted for the agreement with the United States team.
Laporta regretted the choice of the 36-year-old athlete, but declared that he understands the striker’s decision.
“We had an agreement with LaLiga that we would dedicate part of the resources we have to Messi. It was included in the viability plan. We communicated to Jorge Messi. He told me that Leo had had a very difficult year in Paris and that he wanted less pressure” , revealed the manager, giving good luck to the star in his new challenge.
While Barcelona is working on the market after failing to reach an agreement with Messi, the Argentine already has a date set for his first match for Inter Miami. His debut is scheduled for July 21, in a duel against Cruz Azul, from Mexico.
