Ukrainian tennis player Svitolina called the admission of the Russians to Wimbledon a necessary measure
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina spoke about the admission of Russian and Belarusian players to Wimbledon. It is reported by “Great Tennis of Ukraine”.
She called this decision a necessary measure. “There was a lot of pressure from the tennis authorities. And therefore, this was an expected step, because the organizers would not want to lose the major, and we need to accept this, ”said Svitolina.
The Ukrainian also thanked the organizers of Wimbledon for not allowing the Russians and Belarusians to the tournament last year. “I was here one day, I saw Ukrainian players. They were of the same opinion, ”said the athlete.
On March 31, the UK Lawn Tennis Association, which organizes Wimbledon, allowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players who signed a “declaration of neutrality” to participate in the 2023 tournament. Competitions will be held from 3 to 16 July.
