Luis Noboa Ycaza, who was the head of Barcelona SC, is considering a candidacy for club president next September and believes there is “uncertainty” about the real value of the million dollar deficit suffered by the Guayaquil institution.

In the second part of the interview with UNIVERSEthe businessman admitted that Rolando Zárate, the former Argentine striker, who sued the team for a high amount, did not deliver what was expected.

As for the members of his possible list, he did not mention brother Antonio (former Toreador president) as a member.

What kind of image do you think you have among Barcelona SC members, who are they who vote?

I am a person with high ethical and moral values and my goal is to move Barcelona SC forward in the sporting and institutional fields. I want to make a difference. Revenge and emphasis should be put aside and have unity and present a serious project that will remove the spirit of debt from the club.

Would your brother Antonio Noboa be on your list if you decided to run?

I believe that the list should not be formed with people with whom you have an affinity, but with those who can contribute to the club. This support must be through ideas, actions, in the board of directors, which must be very active.

The worst foreigner in the history of Barcelona, Rolando Zárate, who cost the club 3 million dollars between the transfer, the salary and the lawsuit, was hired in the Maruri board, where your brother and you were. With this million-dollar ‘stain’, what can we say if he will be the president of the club?

And the other players who were brought in? We’re talking about Zárate, but Damián Díaz? There is talk about one that came in 2008, and the other that brought championships? In football, mistakes can be made, players can have physical problems with which they will never reach the football level for which they were brought. All these uncertainties that exist in the equation of a football player are fulfilled in one case, and not in others. I do not object to saying that Zárate has not met the goals we would expect as a leader; however, other players emerged who were not as well known and became stars and possible legends. The fans complain about Zárate and I understand them, but I’m not against it because unfortunately he didn’t comply with the club’s demands.

In 2022, Ever Hugo Almeida (today DT of El Nacional) told in 2008 that the Canarian leader told him, when he was managing Barcelona, ”you can’t be a champion here. We want to bring our coach”. According to Almeida, that colleague was Reinaldo Merlo decided to leave for this reason and because of “very difficult political and sports situations. Did you know anything about that?”

I respect what Professor Almeida may have said, but the only thing I would ask him to say is his name, because if he said that someone asked him that, to say who it is, because I will tell him in my lifetime (without the coach of the club that there will be no champion with Barcelona SC.

What do you think about all the irregularities revealed by the audit of the company PKF, with a deadline of September 30, 2019, paid for by José Tamariz, Isidro Romero and Jaime Nebot, among others. Are its leaders running Barcelona SC that badly?

I insist, there is uncertainty (about the amount of the debt). Like fans and partners, I’m uncertain. There is no such thing as an independent audit where you are given the freedom to see the good, the bad, the beautiful and the great, because the dignitaries (the eight partners who engaged the audit) went and said, ‘get this,’ but they didn’t say, ‘look what happened to this.’ All the revisions I’ve seen in Barcelona, which I’m not saying are frivolous because they are, have been directed in a way that creates uncertainty. The companies that made them have credibility and that doesn’t mean they aren’t complete, but everything needs to be pulled out; i.e. assets, liabilities and start a new project from there. (D)
