Three Russian fencers who left Russia will compete at the US Championship

The fencers who left Russia and Belarus will perform at the US Championship. This was reported on the website of the US Fencing Federation (FFS).

“We understand that there are fencers who may be Russians or Belarusians, reside in the United States and benefit fencing in the United States,” the organization said in a statement.

According to the Inside The Games portal, three Russians can compete in the championship: epee fencer Oleg Knysh, vice-champion of the Olympic Games in Tokyo Sergey Bida and saber fencer Konstantin Lokhanov, who is the ex-husband of two-time Olympic champion Sofia Pozdnyakova.

It is noted that several conditions must be met. Athletes must condemn the actions of Russia and Belarus and not show affiliation with Russia or Belarus in competition. Athletes were admitted to tournaments by the Board of Directors of the FSF.

In March, the European Fencing Confederation allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. However, the organization later denied entry to many athletes, including Olympic champions Yana Yegoryan, Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Olga Nikitina.
