The Carolinas said that the Russian passport will not affect the prospects of players in the draft
Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell spoke about the impact of players’ Russian citizenship on the draft in the National Hockey League (NHL). His words are quoted by The Hockey News.
“We’re not so much worried about the passport, but about whether this player will be in the top 6 offense of our team or the defender of the first two lines and the like,” Waddell said, adding that the club is open to the best players.
On May 9, it became known that the Chicago Blackhawks won the draft lottery. The team finished 30th in the regular season table. Following her, the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets will choose.
The NHL Draft will take place in Nashville on June 28 and 29. At the annual event, league clubs secure the rights to young hockey players aged 18 to 21.
