UEFA reminded that Crimean clubs are forbidden to participate in RFU competitions
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) responded to Ukraine’s call to exclude the Russian Football Union (RFU) from the organization because of the Crimean clubs. It is reported by TASS.
UEFA recalled that from January 1, 2015, teams from the Crimea are prohibited from participating in competitions organized by the RFU. “The Executive Committee has decided to consider this region a “special zone” for football purposes until further notice,” the organization’s press service added, without specifying whether the RFU faces any sanctions.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Football Association sent a letter to the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA with a request to exclude the RFU from the organizations. The Ukrainian side was outraged by the attempts to integrate football clubs from the Crimea into the regular national championships of Russia.
On June 6, TASS reported that Sevastopol and Rubin Yalta received licenses to participate in the Second League in the 2023/2024 season. Teams will compete in Group B.
