IIHF did not mention the Russian player Matvey Michkov in the material about the upcoming NHL draft
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) ignored Russian SKA forward Matvey Michkov in an article about the upcoming draft of the National Hockey League (NHL), published on the organization’s website.
The draft pick is Canadian Connor Bedard. The IIHF spoke about fellow countryman Adam Fantilli and Swede Leo Karlsson, who are expected to be in the top three of the draft, as well as other players. At the same time, Michkov, who, according to experts, will be drafted among the first five players, is not mentioned in the material.
18-year-old Michkov played for Sochi on loan in the 2022/2023 season. In total, he played 27 games for the team in the regular season of the Continental Hockey League. In them, the forward scored 9 goals and gave 11 assists. Michkov became the second in the ranking of European players ahead of the NHL draft.
The NHL Draft will take place in Nashville on June 28 and 29. At the annual event, league clubs secure the rights to young hockey players aged 18 to 21.
