In addition to shining for Brazilian football wearing the shirt of great teams, Michel Bastos also had a relevant passage in Europe. This Sunday, the former Brazilian player revealed his almost trip to the Napolifrom Italy, before closing with Romaem 2014.

“It would have been a great opportunity for me, something bad happened. I would have liked to play for Napoli, but the presence of Garcia (then Roma coach) was decisive in my choice”, declared Michel Bastos to Crc Radio in the program The Network Swells.

Rudi Garcia commanded Roma for two and a half seasons, between 2013 and 2016. The French coach recommended the signing of Michel Bastos, with whom he had worked together at Lille, in 2008.

“I appreciate him a lot and also the mental work he has done on me in the past has made me lean towards Roma. It wasn’t easy for me to choose, it wasn’t easy because Roma and Napoli are two great teams. Napoli, but at the same time I’m happy to have done it at Roma with Garcia,” added the former midfielder.

Two weeks ago, Napoli announced Rudi Garcia as new coach of the current Italian champion. The former commander of Michel Bastos arrives to replace Luciano Spalletti, who stepped down after winning the ‘Scudetto’.

“I was coached by Garcia and I have great memories of him. Technically he is very prepared, he has the will, determination and his commitment will not fail in Naples. He knows how to keep the group together and I like to highlight that aspect because he will find a strong group in Naples , but I’m sure he’ll be able to keep it together”, said the Brazilian.

Before making his return to Italian football, Rudi Garcia coached Al-Nassr, from Saudi Arabia. The French coach led the team that has Cristiano Ronaldo, ended up not winning any title and was fired in April of this year.

“Garcia was absent from the Italian Championship, but he will be able to regain it in a short time and I also take the opportunity to publicly thank him because I grew a lot with him. Garcia has a strong mentality and I am sure he will come to Naples to win”, added Michel Bastos , who wore the shirts of Feyenoord, Lille, Lyon, Schalke and Roma in Europe. In Brazil, he had spells at Athletico-PR, Grêmio, Figueirense, Sport, São Paulo, Palmeiras and ended his career at América-MG in 2019.
