After Robert Lewandowski was transferred to FC Barcelona, it suddenly turned out that Zbigniew Boniek had an offer from this club. Now it turns out that another Pole was close to hitting the team from the Catalan capital. And that’s over 20 years before Lewandowski.
“Ultimately, my transfer failed.” Dudek recalls his would-be move to FC Barcelona
In his column, “Soccer Nożna” weekly, Roman Kołtań reveals that years ago Jerzy Dudek was interested in Barcelona. He quotes the words of the former Liverpool goalkeeper in his text: “When they boast about offers from Barcelona, I will also say something. The offer from Catalonia was boasted by Zbigniew Boniek, someone else spoke about it, I also praise it. I had an offer from Barcelona – I even got a jersey. But then Barca finally took Ruud Hesper. They were looking for a goalkeeper with this Dutch mentality – to play football with the defenders. In the end, my transfer didn’t work out, probably also against financial conditions. “
The whole situation was to take place in 1997. Then Hesper went to Barcelona, and Dudek stayed in Feyenoord Rotterdam, with whom he celebrated the title of the Dutch champion two years later. Then the Pole landed at Liverpool, and from there he finally moved to the Spanish team, but not to FC Barcelona, but its biggest rival, Real Madrid. He did not make a great career in Madrid, he was a replacement for Iker Casillas and for 4 years he made 12 appearances, after which he ended his career.
