Shakhtar director Palkin criticized FIFA for the lack of support for Ukrainian football
Shakhtar CEO Serhiy Palkin criticized the International Football Federation (FIFA) for the lack of support for Ukrainian teams. His words are quoted by inews.
“Everyone is trying to do something to support our fight. Everything except FIFA and some European clubs,” he complained. Palkin noted that due to the ruling allowing legionnaires to suspend contracts, Ukrainian clubs are suffering heavy financial losses.
“FIFA has killed our faith in fair play. Now we will think twice before investing anything, because FIFA just comes and does whatever it wants,” he said and added that a solidarity fund for Ukrainian clubs is needed.
According to the new terms of FIFA, the option to suspend the contract cannot be used by foreign players and coaches who continue to work in Ukrainian and Russian clubs. Also deprived of this opportunity are those who signed or extended the contract with the team after March 7, 2022. It is noted that the players who took advantage of the option can extend the suspension of the contract for another season.
FIFA allowed legionnaires to suspend contracts with Ukrainian and Russian clubs unilaterally on March 7, 2022. Initially, the option was available until June 30, 2022, but then its validity was extended until June 30, 2023.
