The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation said that relations between Russia and the IIHF have changed
The Secretary General of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation (LHF) Roberts Plžejs said that relations between Russia and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have changed. His words are quoted by Expressen.
“In the current realities, it is impossible to separate sports and politics. Relationships of the current president of the IIHF [Люка Тардифа] with Russia are very different from those that they had with Rene Fasel, ”Pluzeys considered. He added that the LHF intends to file a protest against the transfer of goalkeeper Janis Kalnins to Amur Khabarovsk, as the player is against the decision of the Latvian government.
In August, Kalnins had problems with the transition to Amur. At first, the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation blocked his transfer to Amur, but on August 27, the hockey player received permission to play in the league.
At the end of July, it was reported that hockey players and coaches who decided to work in Russia came to the attention of the Latvian Security Service. In April, the Latvian Seimas adopted amendments to the law on sports that banned citizens of the country from participating in sports competitions in Russia.
