Skier Veronika Stepanova said she was somewhat happy about the removal of the Russians
Russian skier Veronika Stepanova appreciated the removal of domestic athletes from international starts. Her words are quoted by RT.
“I’m even glad to some extent, because the competitions in Russia are a good opportunity for me personally to solve local problems, to establish myself as a stable athlete,” said the Beijing 2022 Olympic champion. Stepanova added that the Russians still have a chance to get to the World Cup.
On September 28, it was reported that Norway was boycotting an international skiing meeting because of Russia. “I was practically going to take the train, but now I stay at home. Now it is difficult to sit at a meeting with the Russians, ”said Thorbjorn Brooks Pettersen, spokesman for the country’s skiing federation.
On September 22, the FIS hinted at a possible return to the tournaments of Russians who were suspended from playing at international competitions in March. The organization emphasized that this is not about holding competitions in Russia, but about the participation of athletes in federation events and World Cups. The FIS Council plans to discuss this issue on 22 October.
On March 1, the Norwegian Ski Federation suspended Russian athletes from competitions held in the country. The FIS later extended the ban to all competitions under the auspices of the organization.
