Iga Świątek (WTA 1.) is having the best season in her career. She reached the top of the ranking of tennis players, and also triumphed in two Grand Slam tournaments – Roland Garros and the US Open. In addition, she won tournaments, incl. in Miami, Indian Wells, Rome and Stuttgart. She also recorded a great series of 37 victories in a row and broke the record of the legendary Serena Williams.

Iga Świątek was not on the prestigious list. The fans stood behind her

The list of the Polish woman’s successes is of course much longer and includes, for example, the triumph of Roland Garros in 2019. Iga Świątek at the age of only 21 can consider herself a titled player and one of the greatest tennis stars. It was not enough, however, to be included in the prestigious TIME100 Next list, prepared by the famous American weekly, which caused outrage of fans.

Every year, the names of a hundred rising stars from various fields from around the world are added to the TIME100 Next list. It is an extremely elite group and not everyone can be included in it. Why the indignation that Iga Świątek is not there? All because the decision-makers omitted the Polish woman and placed Carlos Alcaraz, the new leader of the ATP ranking, on the list.

The 19-year-old Spaniard is having a great season. Recently, like Świątek, he triumphed in the US Open. He also became the youngest ever leader in the tennis players ranking. There is no doubt that he has great talent and deserves recognition. Fans, however, complain that the Polish tennis player deserved more recognition and a place on the aforementioned list. The reason is simple – so far she has achieved much more than Alcaraz. There have been a lot of comments on this topic on the web.

“No offense to Carlos, but women always have to do more to get recognition, and even if they do, they might not get it. Iga had a historic season and what for?” – one of the internet users writes.

“Iga won RG at 19 and became No. 1 at 20, breaking Serena’s record in a series of matches. Oh, she won 10 titles and 3 slams at 21,” added another.

“Slap whoever made this list – and did not include Iga – 37 times or something, I don’t know” – we read on.

“I like Carlos and he deserves it, but the number of points he needed to take first place is very low compared to others in the past. Does this undermine his achievements? No and no one should challenge Iga because he is on a different level now, and it deserves and should have been taken into account “- this is another opinion.

There were also comments from people who think that TIME made a good choice and Carlos Alcaraz deserved a place more than Iga Świątek. There were attempts to depreciate the achievements of the Polish woman. One of the internet users believes that she was successful only because Ashleigh Barty ended her career.

This year’s TIME100 Next list includes, among others famous actors – Lily Collins, Yahya Abdul-Mateena II, or Lashana Lynch. Apart from Carlos Alcaraz, the sports world featured Ja Morant from Memphis Grizzlies, swimmer Lia Thomas, sprinter Erriyon Knighton, and footballer Trinity Rodman, daughter of the legendary basketball player Dennis Rodman.
