American figure skater Zhou criticized the IOC and WADA for the delay in the Valieva doping case

American figure skater Vincent Zhou criticized the delay in the doping case of Russian woman Kamila Valieva. He spoke out on Instagram (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The athlete complained that 500 days have passed since the award ceremony after the team tournament was supposed to take place at the 2022 Olympic Games, and the medals have not yet been received. “What should have been a simple case of clean sport and fair competition has turned into a complex legal battle that has dragged on too long, and we, clean athletes, are paying the price,” he said.

Zhou called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to promote a proper decision following the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing in September. “I also call on the International Skating Union (ISU), the teams of Japan and Canada to join us in publicly declaring a position in defense of clean sport and fair results,” he added.

The Russian national team became the winner of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games, but the IOC refused to hold the awards ceremony against the backdrop of a positive doping test for Valieva, who participated in the competition. The Americans in this type of program took second place, the Japanese closed the top three, and the Canadians stopped at fourth position.
