The German will occupy an advisory role for the next two seasons.
German Ralf Rangnick, 63, will coach Manchester United until the end of the season, the English club announced on Monday, after the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eight days ago.
Rangnick, who has spent his entire career as a coach on the Bundesliga bench, will occupy an advisory role for the next two seasons, Manchester United said in a statement.
“Manchester United are pleased to announce the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as manager until the end of the season. After this period, Ralf and the club agreed to continue exercising an advisory role for two more years ”, explained the ‘Red Devils’, who occupy eighth place in the Premier League.
“I am delighted to be joining Manchester United, and I am focused on making this season a success for the club. The team is full of talents and presents an excellent balance between youth and experience ”, reacted Ralf Rangnick, quoted on the club’s website.
“All my efforts over the next six months will be devoted to helping these players develop their potential, both individually and as a team,” added the coach.
Rangnick was Lokomotiv Moscow’s sporting director since last summer, having worked for decades in Germany, especially as coach of RB Leipzig.
Michael Carrick, a former club player and assistant to Solskjaer, led the team in the Champions League win over Villarreal and Sunday’s draw at Chelsea.
Michael Carrick will continue to lead the team until Ralf Rangnick work permits are available.
“Ralf is one of the most respected and innovative coaches in European football. He was our number one candidate to be interim manager, ”congratulated Manchester United football director John Murtough. (D)
