Matvey Eliseev and Yevgeny Garanichev were excluded from the national team for the second stage of the World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden. This was announced by the President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov, whose words are quoted on the organization’s website.
The athletes will be replaced by Vasily Tomshin and Alexander Povarnitsyn. Garanichev and Eliseev will go to Shushen, Norway, to compete at the IBU Cup. Maygurov called the rotation planned and said that it was too early to give categorical assessments.
On November 28, Garanichev was late for the sprint start at the first stage of the World Cup, forgetting his ski poles. As a result, the athlete came to the finish line 113th with a lag of 3 minutes 55.5 seconds.
Eliseev also took part in the race. The Russian biathlete took 78th position. He lost 2 minutes 51.9 seconds to the winning Swede Sebastian Samuelsson.
