Carlitos’s transfer to Legia Warsaw was one of the biggest transfer hits in Poland this summer. The Spanish striker does not need any introduction to the league fans. He appeared in the league in 2017, when he signed a contract with Wisła Kraków. In his first season, he became the top scorer, hitting the net 24 times and adding seven assists. From Wisła, Krakow moved to Legia Warsaw. There he also presented himself well. In the colors of the Warsaw team, he played 53 matches in which he scored 21 goals and recorded seven assists. He left Legia in 2019, and now, after episodes in the United Arab Emirates and Greece, he returned to Warsaw. In an interview with Canal + Sport, he talked about the backstage of the transfer.
– With the sports director [Jackiem Zielińskim – red.] I’ve been in touch basically from the moment he was appointed. I didn’t care about the money and that’s why we managed to get everything sorted out. I am a kind of grateful person. I take care of my own, and I consider Legia my team, something more than a club. I felt that I should help him and I’m glad that I did it – said the striker.
Carlitos is delighted to return to Legia Warsaw
Before the contract was signed, the media reported that Lech Pozna was interested in Carlitos. The Spaniard did not want to confirm this, but revealed that he did have other offers from Poland. – Three clubs to be exact. I don’t want to reveal the names because I’m a serious man, but they were offers from three specific clubs managed by good people. And although it may seem complicated from the outside, for me the decision was simple. There are times in life when the length or amount of the contract is not the most important thing. And that was one of those moments. I made the decision to return to Legia immediately. And I took it myself, I did not consult it with anyone, not even my loved ones – he claims.
Carlitos strongly believes he will help Legia get back to the top. In the last season, Legia greatly disappointed, taking only the 10th place in the table. And Carlitos believes that Legia is a leading club, not only in Poland. – Legia is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. When someone says that I am exaggerating, I ask how many training centers he visited, how many clubs he played and at how many stadiums and how many coaches and presidents he had. And further explain that if he had the opportunity to compare Legia’s training center with another, then he would understand that I am not exaggerating, but that I am speaking with sense. In Spain, but also in many other countries, almost no one has such a center. I’m ready to bet almost any money on it. Everything is top notch here. We have a lot of pitches, also for beach soccer. There are restaurants, a hotel, a place for physiotherapy, a gym, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi. From the outside, it looks more than a resort than a training center – praises Legia Carlitos.
– I signed a contract with Legia for two years with an option to extend it. If it’s up to me, they’ll be here for three years. I feel really good here. If you feel great off the pitch, it also shows on the pitch. That’s why I don’t want to leave, ‘he added.
This season, Carlitos has already played six games and scored three goals. He will have another opportunity to do so on October 1. In the top league hit, Legia will face Lech Poznań.
