PACE called on the IOC to prevent Russian athletes from participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remove Russian athletes from the 2024 Olympic Games. This is reported in the resolution published on the website of the organization.

“The Assembly believes that the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Games is unthinkable under the current conditions, since it will certainly be used as a propaganda tool,” the document says. It is noted that the presence of Russians will de facto interfere with the participation of other athletes, including Ukrainians.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from two countries associated with the armed forces or security agencies are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.

The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
