Copa Libertadores 2022: Emelec, Independiente del Valle, U. Católica and Barcelona SC will be the representatives of Ecuador

The final of the next edition of the Libertadores will be at the Monumental Stadium in Barcelona.

After the second stage of the Pro League, the last qualifiers to the 2022 Copa Libertadores were met. Along with Independiente del Valle and Emelec, U. Católica and Barcelona Sporting Club joined.

They achieved the quota to the continental tournament by taking over the first four places in the accumulated table of the national championship.

The final of the next edition of the Libertadores will be at the Monumental Banco Pichincha stadium in Barcelona, ​​in Guayaquil.

Format

The competition will have three qualifying phases of direct elimination, in which 19 teams will participate, of which 4 will achieve the classification to the group phase and will be added to the 28 already classified; From the group stage, the first two from each zone will enter the last four stages (round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final), also direct elimination, until the champion is determined.

In addition, twelve teams will be transferred to the Copa Sudamericana 2022 (the third from the group stage and the 4 losers from the stage 3).

The four quotas distributed by the South American Football Confederation (CSF), better known as Conmebol, will be distributed as follows for our country:

Phase 1

Barcelona for having obtained the quota of Ecuador 4 will begin its participation in this stage, scheduled to be played from February 8, according to the Comenbol calendar.

Phase 2

U. Católica will go into action for being Ecuador 3. It will begin to be played from February 22.

Group stage:

Emelec and Independiente, who will fight for the national title this season in the final of the tournament, They will define who will get the quota for Ecuador 1 (which will be for the champion) and Ecuador 2 (vice champion). The draw for this stage will be March 23 and will start on April 5.
