IOC to check Isinbayeva and Tarpishchev

The IOC will check Isinbayeva and Tarpishchev for their involvement in the RF Armed Forces

The Ethics Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will conduct an audit against members of the organization Elena Isinbayeva and Shamil Tarpishchev for their involvement in the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). This was announced by IOC Communications Director Mark Adams, quoted by TASS.

The review will be based on two criteria. “The first is active support for hostilities, the second is contractual obligations with military structures. Only the period after February 24, 2022 will be taken into account,” Adams said.

He added that the check will also affect the honorary members of the IOC. Among them are Vitaly Smirnov, Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee, and Alexander Popov, four-time Olympic champion in swimming.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC.
