Minister of Sports of Dagestan Sazhid Sazhidov opposed the change of citizenship by young wrestlers
The Minister of Sports of the Republic of Dagestan, Sazhid Sazhidov, revealed the attitude to the change of citizenship by young Russian wrestlers. It is reported by Metaratings.
He opposed this process. “They train in our gyms, schools. The state invests a lot of money in educating these athletes. We see prospects in young wrestlers,” said Sazhidov.
The minister also stressed that he did not object to the decisions of experienced athletes to play for another country, who for a long time could not become leaders of the Russian team. “The ministry allows such guys to change their citizenship so that they can write their names in the history of world sports,” Sazhidov added.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World Wrestling (UWW) decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling said that the Russians would compete in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
