Zakharyan and Melekhin became European Young Player of the Year nominees
The list of 100 nominees for the annual Golden Boy Award, which is awarded to the best young (under 21) football player of the year in Europe, has been announced. It is published on the website of the founder of the award, the Italian publication Tuttosport.
The list includes two Russians – 19-year-old defender Viktor Melekhin from Rostov and 20-year-old Dynamo Moscow midfielder Arsen Zakharyan. Football players took 63rd and 88th places respectively. Also in the top 100 was the 19-year-old Brazilian defender of the St. Petersburg “Zenith” Robert Renan, he is located in 34th position.
The first in the ranking was Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala. Behind him is ex-Borussia Dortmund player Jude Bellingham, who will represent Real Madrid this season. Rounding out the top three is Barcelona midfielder Gavi.
Earlier, seven Russian players entered the top 200 most promising young football players in the world according to the International Center for Sports Research in Football (CIES Football Observatory). In addition to Zakharyan and Melekhin, the list includes forward Sergey Pinyaev and goalkeeper Daniil Khudyakov from Lokomotiv, Krylia Sovetov midfielder Alexander Kovalenko, CSKA goalkeeper Vladislav Torop, and defender Andrey Langovich representing Rostov.
