UEFA said it was monitoring the situation with the arrest of the head of the Ukrainian Football Association Pavelko
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) spoke about the arrest of the head of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andriy Pavelko. The commentary of the press service of the organization leads TASS.
UEFA said they are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the UAF. “We firmly believe that the presumption of innocence of any person must be respected, therefore we have no further comments yet,” the message says.
The arrest of Pavelko, who has been a member of the UEFA Executive Committee since 2019, became known on June 16. The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Lviv decided to take him into custody for 60 days, until August 14, 2023. It was noted that the pledge made earlier would be transferred in favor of the state.
In November 2022, Pavelko was arrested by the Kyiv Pechersk Court. Then the UAF made a bail in the amount of 9.88 million hryvnia, thanks to which the functionary avoided being taken into custody. He is a suspect in a criminal case of misappropriation of international aid funds intended for the construction of an artificial grass plant.
Pavelko has headed the UAF since March 2015. In February 2023, he was temporarily removed from his post.
