Two-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov spoke about the attitude towards him in the United States after moving from the USSR. His words are quoted by the newspaper Arguments and Facts.

“When I came to the US in 1989, they hated me because I was from the USSR. The hatred was not only in the press, but also in the locker room. There were half of the guys who hid in bomb shelters as children because they were frightened by Soviet atomic bombs, ”said the former hockey player.

On August 25, Fetisov spoke about a possible ban for the Russian team from participating in the 2024 Hockey World Cup. “World Cup without Evgeni Malkin, Alexander Ovechkin and Artemy Panarin? Can’t believe me. If you have these guys in the National Hockey League (NHL) playing, why can’t you make a team out of them? he asked.
