Big PSG knocked down in the Champions League. “We cannot fight the Poles financially”

Last week, the first Handball Champions League matches were held. Both Polish teams taking part in the tournament have had a successful inauguration. French Nantes 40:33, and Wisła’s players won in Płock 27:23 against FC Porto. And in the next round, PSG will play against Wisła Płock (Wednesday, 20:45).

PSG in pursuit of the biggest dream. False start of the rebuilt team in the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain players are certainly dissatisfied with the result of the first leg. The French lost 34:36 to the Hungarian Telekom Veszper at the opening of the competition. This gives them the 5th place in group A.

PSG is the undisputed hegemon of the French league. The Parisians have been the best team in the country for eight years. The club’s golden age began in 2012 when Nasser Al-Khelaïfi became president. The Qatari businessman founded Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) with the goal of “building a leading team at national and European level”.

The first goal was achieved one hundred percent. However, Parisians have not yet managed to conquer the European games. The team’s great desire is to win the Champions League, but so far it remains only in the dream zone. The closest to PSG’s triumph was in the 2016/17 season. The team advanced to the final, where rivals from RK Vardar turned out to be stronger. Macedonians won 24:23 after a very even game, and they repeated their success two seasons later.

Since the 2015/16 season, the French club has made five entries in the top four games. In the previous edition, the champions of the country dropped out in the quarter-finals, which was considered a great defeat. As the team captain, Luka Karabatić, argues, PSG will fight for another semi-final this season. – The final four is always our goal. Everything will depend on our team’s development skills, regularity and effectiveness in the game. We also have to avoid injuries – said Rotary.

PSG cannot fight financially with the Polish champion

PSG still has a huge advantage over its rivals in France: with a budget of over 16 million euros, it has twice as much money as Montpellier or Nantes, the main rivals. But such amounts are not necessarily enough in the Champions League. – We cannot fight financially with Kielce (Łomża Industria Kielce), Hungarian clubs, etc. The tax system does not favor French clubs – said Thierry Omeyer, former star of the French team, today the general manager of PSG.

A lot will depend on the chemistry. Many great players left PSG after last season. Mikkel Hansen, Nedim Remili, Benoît Kounkoud, Vincent Gérard and Yann Genty said goodbye to the club. This is a significant weakening for the team that is hoping to conquer the Champions League. The authorities have brought in young, prospective players such as 22-year-old Yoann Gibelin or Dominik Mathé, one year older than Hungary. The first game in the competition showed, however, that success in this year’s edition may be hard to achieve.
