The Ministry of Sports of Ukraine changed the order to ban competing with Russians and Belarusians
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine has changed the wording of the ban on the participation of its athletes in tournaments in which athletes from Russia and Belarus are present. The corresponding order is published on the department’s website.
As follows from the document, it is forbidden to “send official delegations of athletes of the national teams of Ukraine in Olympic, non-Olympic sports and sports of persons with disabilities to participate in international competitions” in cases where athletes from Russia or Belarus.
On April 14, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions with Russians and Belarusians. According to the provisions of the order, federations that violate this rule will be deprived of their national status.
In response, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that the Ukrainian government does not have the right to decide which athletes can participate in tournaments.
