Italy beat Netherlands to take third place in League of Nations

This Sunday, Netherlands e Italy dueled in a match valid for the dispute for third place in the League of Nations. The Italian team did better and won the match 3-1, with goals from Dimarco, Frattesi and Chiesa. Bergwijn and Wijnaldum dropped to Holland.

With that, Italy reaches third place for the second time in the League of Nations, having achieved this feat in the previous edition, in 2020-21, by beating Belgium by 2-1. competition for the second time in its history, as the team was runner-up in 2018-19.

The great decision of the League of Nations takes place this Sunday, at 3:45 pm (Brasília time), between Croatia e Spainat Feyenoord Stadium, Netherlands.

The game

The match started with everything and with an early goal. Dimarco took advantage of Raspadori’s pass after a cross from the right and finished hard at the right angle to score a great goal in the sixth minute and open the scoring for Italy. Azurra didn’t stop there and extended the score with Frattesi in the 20th minute after the Dutch defender’s lack of attention.

Needing to chase the loss, the Netherlands started to create more opportunities and saw Italy try to hold the result. At 23 minutes, finally, the Dutch team took their zero from the scoreboard and scored with Steven Bergwijn to reduce. However, the reaction did not last long and Italy scored again with Chiesa, at 27.

Even so, Weghorst even scored in the 37th minute after a free kick, but the move was disallowed for offside. The second goal still came, however, from Wijnaldum’s feet after a good collective move by the Netherlands in the 44th minute.
