Mamaev explained the refusal to open a football academy in Russia

Mamaev said that he decided to open an academy in Dubai, and not in Russia because of competition

Former Russian footballer Pavel Mamaev explained the refusal to open a football academy in Russia. His words are quoted by Match TV.

The ex-athlete noted that he made this decision due to the high competition between academies in Russia. “CSKA, Spartak, Lokomotiv, Krasnodar, Dynamo, Chertanovo are brands. Well, who will be interested in Pavel Mamaev’s academy when there are such blocks?” – he explained, adding that in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) there are no such professional schools that his institution is significantly inferior to them in terms of level.

Mamaev also spoke about how work is progressing at his academy in the UAE. “Now we have agreed that our pupils can go on internships to clubs in France, we are negotiating with Belgian clubs in order to send our children for 3-4 weeks for viewing,” he added.

On January 21, it became known that Mamaev, together with Dynamo forward Fedor Smolov, would open a children’s academy in Dubai. Olympic speed skating champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova accused the players of evading mobilization and condemned the idea of setting up a school abroad. “If they do it for their own money, then it’s more correct to do it all the same in Russia. It’s better to spend on our children,” she added.
