Ecuadorian weightlifter Neisi Dajomes won the gold medal in the category up to 81 kilograms at the Weightlifting Grand Prix held in Havana, Cuba, a qualifying competition for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, in which Tamara Salazar also competes.

Dajomes won gold in the jerk, the modality she defined against Norway’s Eila Koanda, after Salazar topped 116 kilograms on her third attempt and dropped from 115 on her second lift.

With two valid attempts (115 and 118 kilograms), the Olympic champion sought 121 kilograms in the third outing, but failed; but a 118 in the second lift allowed her to retain the gold, followed by the Norwegian who lifted a 116 in the second but was unable to with a 120 for her third move. Carchense Salazar remained bronze with 116 kilograms in the best attempt. (D)
