A new world record was set by Ecuadorian weightlifter Angie Palacios at the Grand Prix tournament held in Havana (Cuba).
The joy was also visible among the athletes who celebrated with three gold medals in the category up to 71 kilograms.
Palacios snatched the clean and jerk record from China’s Liao Guifang, who lifted 120 kilograms at the Asian Championships last month. She also broke her own mark in the deadlift by lifting 140 kilograms and breaking her own Pan American record.
Celebrate, Ecuador! Angie Palacios achieved a world record in Havana, qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The athlete continues to string triumphs after obtaining her Olympic diploma in Tokyo 2020, winning sixth place in the category up to 64 kilograms.
In recent years, the athletes have distinguished themselves in the various international tournaments where they have played. Neisi Dajomes, Tamara Salazar, Bella Paredes, Angie Palacios and Lisseth AyovĂ are some of the names that excelled in their respective categories.
At the Olympic Games or international championships, competitors in the jerk modality usually lift from 41 to 68 kg above their body weight, and in the two-stroke modality from 82 to 100 kg. The lifter who manages to lift the highest total weight in both modalities wins the competition.
Angie Palacios: We are working hard for this record
If a comparison is made with the weight of various objects that are observed every day, Palacios lifted about eight gas tanks in the trunk, each weighing 15 kilograms; or two and a half bags of cement and about six 20 liter bottles of water. When the total lifted weight is taken into account, which is 261 kilograms, it becomes 17.4 gas tanks, 5.2 bags of cement and 13 bottles of water.

It must be remembered that the weight lifted by the athletes is distributed on both sides of the metal bar.
According to the International Weightlifting Federation, last March in Bariloche (Argentina), Neisi Dajomes managed to lift 115 kilograms in a jerk (7.6 gas tanks, 2.3 bags of cement and 5.75 bottles of water), while lifting a total of 256 kilograms .
Here are other comparisons with other weightlifter brands:

Tamara Salazar | 253 | 16.8 | 5 | 12.6 |
beautiful walls | 237 | 15.8 | 4.7 | 11.8 |
