This Thursday, Valencia released an official note in which it accuses Rodrygo, of Real Madrid, of making “false statements” about the racist attacks at the Mestalla stadium. the brazilian player had stated that he “saw the whole stadium shouted ‘mono'”.
Rodrygo’s statement was made this Wednesday, at a press conference for the Brazilian national team. The striker denied that Spain was racist and defended his teammate Vini Jr. by stating that racism also happens to him.
“I believe that Spain is not a racist country, racism is all over the world, there may be people here who are racist, but Spain itself is not racist. I was there on the field, I heard the entire stadium screaming mono (monkey in Spanish). As I said, it also happens to me, I’m also black like Vini”, declared Rodrygo.

This morning, Valencia criticized the Brazilian player’s speech and wrote that “such manifestations are serious lies that contribute to totally unfairly stigmatize an exemplary fan base like Valencia CF”.
“Valencia CF regrets and categorically denies the false statements made by the player Rodrygo Goes, in which he claims that our entire stadium and fans uttered racist chants,” the Spanish club said in a statement.
Following, Rodrygo also used social networks to explain himself and justify the statements. The Real Madrid player reiterated that he has “maximum respect for the fans and for Valencia”, and reaffirmed his commitment to the fight against racism.
My utmost respect to the fans and to Valencia CF Just as in the same press conference I indicated that Spain is not a racist country, I wanted to refer only to those people in the stadium who behaved badly towards Vini, at no time to the entire hubby.…

“In the same press conference where I stressed that Spain should not be considered a racist nation, I referred to those people in the stadium who committed racism against Vini. In no time to all fans”, wrote Rodrygo.
The case in question refers to what happened in May in the match between Valencia and Real Madrid, for the 35th round of the Spanish Championship. Vinícius Júnior was the victim of racist insults by opposing fans who sang prejudiced chants, such as “mono”.

“Valencia CF regrets and categorically denies the false statements made by the player Rodrygo Goes, in which he claims that our entire stadium and fans uttered racist chants.
Such statements are serious lies that contribute to stigmatizing an exemplary fan base like Valencia CF in a totally unfair way.
Like his coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who corrected his words after the game, we ask Rodrygo Goes to also correct these falsehoods. Valencia CF reserves the right to take the relevant legal measures to defend the honor of our club and fans. Football players must also be strict and responsible when making statements.
Likewise, and once again, we want to ratify our strongest condemnation of any type of racism or violence and we demonstrate this with the perpetual expulsion of the three fans involved in this regrettable incident. There is no doubt about our struggle and commitment to eradicate this social scourge.
Once again, we ask our fans the utmost respect and not to be attacked with false information and rumours.”
