Climate change and economic recovery will focus the agenda of the annual meeting of the IMF and WB

Climate change and economic recovery will be some of the topics that will focus the agenda of the next annual assembly of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) to be held next October in the Moroccan town of Marrakech.

are two aspects “important” that will be part of a program “rich” of the next assembly of the two entities, as explained this Tuesday in Rabat by the regional vice president for Africa of the International Finance Corporation (IFC, an entity dependent on the World Bank), Sergio Pimenta, who is visiting Morocco these days to continue preparations for the next appointment.

Pimenta insisted on the character “crucial” of the election of the African continent (Morocco) as the venue for the next assembly of the IMF and WB as “a message they want to send” the two entities. It is the first time in 50 years, he stressed, that it has been held in Africa, after the one in Nairobi (Kenya) in 1973.

“Development issues must focus on Africa, hence the importance of having a meeting on African soil and also to verify the progress made on this continent”he stressed.

The person in charge added that exogenous shocks such as the drought and the impact of the war in Ukraine have affected “strongly” to the African economy, while underscoring the need to focus on accelerating the African economy.

The last annual meeting of the IMF and WB that took place outside Washington DC was in 2018 in Bali (Indonesia). In 2021 it was scheduled to be held in Marrakech (Morocco), but it was postponed until 2023 due to the pandemic.
