The friendly match between Brazil and Spain “against racism” will be played in Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The teams announced the match, scheduled to take place in 2024, after the insults received by Vinícius Júnior.

“I want to announce that the match against racism between Spain and Brazil will be at the Santiago Bernabéu”, said the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, in a press conference alongside the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.

“It’s an ideal setting for a game between two of the best teams in the world,” added Rubiales.

The match, which aims to make fans aware of racism, was announced last week, after the offenses suffered by Vini Jr., the Real Madrid striker.

“Any type of discrimination and racism has no place in football,” said Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Rubiales explained that the friendly will be played in the announced month, if Spain guarantees early qualification for Euro 2024. If not, the period can be reserved for repechage matches.

On May 21, Vini Jr was again the target of racist offenses during the match between Real Madrid and Valencia, which led to a wave of support for the player.

Last week, Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission proposed fines and banning access to stadiums for several fans identified as perpetrators of racist behavior against Vinícius.

In addition, the four people accused of hanging a Vinícius Júnior doll from a Madrid bridge, hours before the Copa del Rey derby against Atlético de Madrid in January, will be fined and will not be able to enter the stadiums for two years, announced the Higher Sports Council.
