Figure skater Ivan Desyatov said he moved to the US for international tournaments
Former Russian figure skater Ivan Desyatov explained his departure to the United States. His words leads “Championship”.
The athlete said that the main reason for the move was the desire to represent themselves at the international level, since neither Belarus nor Russia can do this at the moment. He stressed that in the US he can take part in major tournaments. “This is more controlled by me than by some situation in the world,” Desyatov added.
Desyatov performs in ice dancing. Until 2021, he, along with partner Ekaterina Andreeva, played for Russia. Then for a year the couple represented Belarus and became the winner of the national championship among juniors. In June 2022, he paired up with American Isabella Flores and is now training in the States.
On June 11, the International Skating Union announced that it would uphold the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in competitions under its auspices. The duration of this decision is not called. The organization noted that they would discuss the possibility of implementing the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee at tournaments.
