37-year-old Akinfeev became the oldest goalkeeper to play in the Russian Cup final

CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev set a record for the Russian Cup finals. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.

Akinfeev became the oldest goalkeeper to take part in the final match of the tournament. He entered the field in the game against Krasnodar at the age of 37 years and 64 days. Thus, he surpassed the result of Yuri Zhirkov, who played in the final for Zenit in the 2019/2020 season at the age of 36 years and 340 days.

CSKA and Krasnodar played the decisive match of the tournament on June 11. In regular time, the meeting ended with the score 1:1. In the penalty shootout, CSKA turned out to be stronger – 6:5. Akinfeev brought victory to the Moscow club, reflecting the decisive blow of Olakunle Olusegun.

CSKA won the Russian Cup for the eighth time. The last time the team took the trophy was in the 2012/2013 season.
