Makhachev’s coach named the main contender for the next fight with the Russian

Coach Mendez called Oliveira the main contender for the next fight with Makhachev

Javier Mendez, coach of the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev, named the main contender for the next fight with him. The words of the expert leads the YouTube channel Submission Radio.

“I think that Charles [Оливейра] deserved the right to be first in line [на титульный бой]. Maybe the UFC has a different opinion, but I just don’t understand why it’s not Oliveira. He’s done enough,” Mendes said.

On June 11, Oliveira defeated American Beneil Dariush by technical knockout in the first round at UFC 289 in Vancouver. After the fight, the Brazilian challenged Makhachev. “Last time you saw only a tenth of what I am capable of. This time I gave everything 120 percent,” he said.

Makhachev defeated Oliveira on the night of October 23 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Russian defeated the opponent with a choke hold and became the lightweight champion of the organization.

During his career, 31-year-old Makhachev suffered one defeat and won 24 victories (of which 12 in a row). The 33-year-old Oliveira has 34 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
