ISU extends suspension of Russian figure skaters and speed skaters

Council of the International Skating Union extended the suspension of Russian athletes

The International Skating Union (ISU) has extended the suspension of the Russian national figure skating and speed skating teams. This is stated on the official website of the organization.

The period during which the ban on the performance of Russians in tournaments will continue is not called. The organization noted that they would discuss the possibility of implementing the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at competitions under the auspices of the ISU.

On June 10, the ISU said that the sanctions against Russia and the absence of the national team at the competitions led to the fact that the Union received practically no income from media rights and advertising from Russia. “The first significant negative impact of about one million Swiss francs (about 91.6 million rubles) will be noticed during 2023,” the report says. It was also noted that in the 2022/2023 season, the ratings of TV broadcasts decreased.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
