The head of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, announced his intention to arrange a rematch between Russian Islam Makhachev and Brazilian Charles Oliveira. He announced this during a press conference on the YouTube channel of the promotion.
“Phenomenal performance by Charles. I am looking forward to his revenge with Islam. We need to do this fight again, ”White said.
Oliveira previously defeated American Beneil Dariush by technical knockout in the first round at UFC 289 in Vancouver. After the fight, the Brazilian challenged Makhachev. “Last time you saw only a tenth of what I am capable of. This time I gave everything 120 percent,” he said.
Makhachev defeated Oliveira on the night of October 23 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Russian defeated the opponent with a choke hold and became the lightweight champion of the organization.
During his career, 31-year-old Makhachev suffered one defeat and won 24 victories (of which 12 in a row). The 33-year-old Oliveira has 34 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
