O manchester city conquered his first Champions League in this Saturday. The team won the Inter Milan 1-0 and lifted the trophy at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. Despite the feat being historic for the club, coach Pep Guardiola also hit some milestones.
One of them is that the Spaniard has equaled the mark of Alex Ferguson and Giovanni Trapattoni in Europe by lifting his sixth continental cup. Now there are three Champions League titles (2008/09 and 2010/11 with Barcelona and 2022/23 with City) and three UEFA Super Cup titles (2009 and 2011 with Barcelona and 2013 with Bayern).
The only coach who is in charge of both is Carlos Ancelotti, who is currently in charge of Real Madrid. The Italian has eight conquests: four Champions League and four UEFA Super Cups).
On the list of most successful coaches in the history of football, Guardiola comes in third, with 36. He is only behind Sir Alex Ferguson, who has 49 trophies, and the Romanian Mircea Lucescu, with 37 achievements.
Manchester City closed the 22/23 season with the Triple Crown, as they were also champions of the English Championship and the FA Cup. The Champions League was the only competition the club lacked.
In 2020/21, the team reached the final of the tournament, but was defeated by Chelsea, 1-0, at the Stade de France, in Paris.
