The ISU said that they lost about a million Swiss francs due to the removal of the Russians
The International Skating Union (ISU) announced the amount of financial losses due to the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes. The report is published on the organization’s website.
The Union said that the sanctions against Russia and the absence of the national team at the competitions led to the fact that ISU received practically no income from media rights and advertising from Russia. “The first significant negative impact of about one million Swiss francs (about 91.6 million rubles) will be noticed during 2023,” the report says.
In addition, the ISU said that during the 2022/2023 season, the ratings of television broadcasts decreased. The reason for this was not only the removal of the Russians, but also the decision of the two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu to end his career.
On June 7, 2022, the ISU at the congress of the organization decided to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices. It will remain in effect until further notice.
