O Benfica guaranteed the presence of its captain for at least another two years. Defender NicolΓ‘s Otamendi signed his renewal with the Portuguese and had his contract extended until June 2025. The club announced this on social media this Friday.

The Argentine had a contract valid only until the end of the season and was in negotiations to continue in Lisbon. Despite the lengthy talks, the two parties managed to reach an agreement.
A regular under the command of Roger Schmidt, Otamendi formed a successful partnership with the young AntΓ³nio Silva in the defense of Benfica. The 35-year-old player wore the shirt of the Encarnados in 46 opportunities and scored twice.
