A week after being sacked by Inter Miami, English coach Phil Neville has joined the coaching staff of the Canadian national team, the Canadian Football Association (CSA) said on Friday (9).
After two and a half seasons in charge, Neville was fired on June 1, with the Miami team bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference.
The coach’s departure took place six days before the announcement of the signing of Argentine star Lionel Messi by the franchise, which belongs to former English player David Beckham.
Neville, who was replaced at Inter Miami on an interim basis by Argentine assistant Javier Morales, will be assistant to his compatriot John Herdman, who has managed the Canadian national team since 2018.

Canada, which will be one of the hosts of the world Cup 2026, alongside the United States and Mexico, prepares to play the semifinals of the Concacaf League of Nations on July 15, against Panama.
The other semifinal will be between the United States and Mexico.
In addition to Neville, Canada also incorporated Englishman Richard Shaw, former defender of Crystal Palace and Coventry City, into its coaching staff.
“Both Phil and Richard bring winning experience at the highest level and have worked with some of the Premier League’s best coaches during their careers,” Herdman said in a CSA statement.
