Coach Aleksey Kilyakov spoke about the transfer of his wards, the dance duet of Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin, to the Georgian national team. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Kilyakov said that they will continue to work together after the change of the national team. He noted that the skaters missed the tournaments. “As for the programs of the new season, I will allow myself to keep a little intrigue,” the specialist added.
On May 5, the head coach of the national team, Elena Chaikovskaya, confirmed that the executive committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation approved the change of sports citizenship for Davis and Smolkin. Later, the transfer of the couple was confirmed in Georgia. “A new chapter in our sports life begins,” Davis, daughter of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze, commented on the situation.
Davis and Smolkin made their debut in the adult Russian team in the 2021/2022 season. They came second at the National Championships, eighth at the European Championships and finished 14th at the Beijing Olympics. The 2022/2023 season was missed by athletes living in the USA.
