The captain of “Spartak” Jikia was disqualified for two RPL matches for insulting the referee
Spartak captain Georgiy Jikia was suspended for two matches of the Russian Premier League (RPL) for insulting the referee. This was reported by the head of the Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union Artur Grigoryants, whose words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“One match is a real performance, the second is a conditional one,” said Grigoryants. In addition, the player was fined 250 thousand rubles.
Jikia was punished for the incident during the game with Krylya Sovetov on June 3 (0:1). At the 43rd minute of the meeting, the player who was on the bench received a direct red card for swearing at the referee. It is noted that he argued with the referee about the episode that happened earlier, in which the red-and-white midfielder Ruslan Litvinov received a warning.
According to the results of the 2022/2023 season of the Russian Championship, Spartak took third place. He lost to the St. Petersburg “Zenith” and the capital’s CSKA.
